.................................Rediscovering the 'Wild West'................................

                        In the Footsteps of
       "Winnetou & Old Shatterhand"

Page Under Construction- Will be dedicated to ways the Flemish language and culture is inriched by Germanic influnces.   The framework for this will be the popular Dutch translations of the 'Wild West' novels of the German writer Carl May.  Winnetou and Old Shatterhand are Apache and German blood brothers who are stars of the novels.

Two focal points will be the Universities of Texas at Austin and the University of Colorado at Boulder.  Calidocious Inc. hopes to one day sponsor "California Dutch' classes at those universities, and thereby create Dutch-language  "stepping stones"  that span the United states from Manhattan to California.

The Spanish Flag that once flew over Texas (as part of the German Habsburg Empire) includes Burgundian type lions and the emblem of Castille (Waldzell).

The festival will also celebrate the High German language by using the idea of the 'Glass Bead Game', developed by author Herman Hesse, as a metaphor for the German language.
The 'Glass Bead Game' is sort of intellectual game that is played by scholars who have studied all aspects of science, math, and art.  The name of the universal school, or university, where the 'world champinonship' of the game is played is Waldzell, in Castalia.  Hesse derived the name Castalia from the ancient Spanish province of Castile, renouned for making Toledo a center of learning.  Waldzell is a place in Austria, and the abbey at Goettweig in Austria is used today as a model for the school at Waldzell.
The High German language, and to a lesser degreed Dutch, can be considered to be intellectual games that consist of organized 'glass beads', or words, in complex logical or artistic patterns.

Although this is the seal of Manhattan, it could equally be the seal for Austin.
Austin and the adjacent "German Hill Country" have much in common with Manhattan, including a strong Germanic/Dutch language influence.   The Seal of Manhattan could be copied to be the Seal of Austin.  (Eboraci, or 'York', means 'Place of the Cedars') and a signature tree of the 'German Hill Country' is the 'Mountain Cedar'. Dutch and German windmills were essential to the colonialization of Texas.. The German/Cherokee treaty of Fredericksburg was one of the few treaties that was kept, and settlers were on good terms with the indians.  The date on the seal just needs to be changed from 1625 to 1825.
